Main thought:† To study the beautiful trait of Christís Gentleness
KJV & NIV versions quoted throughout
The Heavenly Gentleman
To Study and look upon the nature of Christ is better than gazing into the most beautiful sunset or looking into the most beautiful mountain lake or stream. It seems that one can spend eternity gazing into the beautiful nature of God. Itís like looking at a multifaceted diamond with each angle of the gem displaying a new and different radiance of light.† Another beautiful attribute of Jesus our Lord is His Gentle Loving nature KJV. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Whole Chapter: In context: ). And another good scripture is KJV A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. (Whole Chapter: In context: ). Iím so very grateful that we have a Loving Heavenly Savior who has been touched by the feeling of our frailty. KJV For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Whole Chapter: In context: ).
I find that the gentleness and tenderness of Christ to be a beautiful trait of His Character. He truly understands how very fragile and broken we are and how much we need His deliverance. His whole nature proclaims this beautiful loving Heart of His since the first page of Genesis to the last page of Revelation. I love the way He placed all things under manís feet within this world, placed him within a beautiful garden, and gave him the task of naming each creature. And, all He asked is one thing! He could have set a wall of fire around the forbidden tree or stayed with Adam & Eve to watch over them to help them to avoid this forbidden fruit. And yet He just asked and left obeying His Word with us. God didnít play any word tricks with us and told us plainly what would happen if we ate thereof.
Satan, on the other hand only cares about one thing and one thing alone, and that is himself. He doesnít care how his word is followed as long as he can get others to follow him down the path of destruction he has chosen. Our God is not only beautiful in indescribable radiant Glory, not only in the incredible beauty of the work of His hands as seen through His creation, but also in the incredible beauty of His Loving Heart. While satan blasts away at us through His lies and the lusts of the eyes, ears, and the pride of this life, Christ merely says Lo, Here I am, to him who thirsts may come and drink. John 4 10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." His yoke truly is easy and His burden truly is light compared to trying to live apart from His Grace. Matthew 11:29-30† 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
The same prideful thought that entered satanís heart of being like God has been the downfall of man as well.† Isaiah 14:12-14 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. And so, after satan sealed his own fate with his pride and arrogance, he wanted to bring us down with him as seen here in Genesis. Genesis 3:4-5 4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Now here again letís contrast this foul arrogance with the beauty of Godís nature seen here in His Son.† Philippians 2:5-9 †5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: †6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. †8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! †9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
It seems that the longer we live, the more opportunity we have to see that Godís Way is the best Way. As Iíve lived Iíve noticed that the older we get, we tend to get either more brittle or more gentle depending on how weíve allowed Godís Word to teach and direct our steps throughout life. To have a teachable heart keeps the soil of our heart from becoming dried out and hard or brittle.† Leather is such a beautiful material that God himself first used to cover us from our shame Genesis 3:21 †21 The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. The characteristic I find beautiful about leather is about how very tough it is to help protect us from the environment and yet at the same time very supple so as to move as we move. This is the same way it seems that God desires His gentleness is to be displayed in our lives. Gentleness without Strength leads to being open to satanís attacks. Please note Godís Word which says in the NIV Matthew 10:16 16I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. It is the same way with our Lord who although emptied Himself unto death like a lamb to its slaughter so He is returning as the Lion of Judah. Revelation 5:4-6 4I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals." 6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
We need to realize that although Christ made Himself
weak, He is far from that in Holiness and the fulfillment of righteousness. For
though He came the first time as Savior, He will return as judge
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge
the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
(Whole Chapter: In context: ) So too in our lives we need to learn how to bend our hearts and ears to hear His voice and keep His Word diligently.
Christ will not come where He is not invited. KJV Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Whole Chapter: In context: ) The more I look into the nature of God, the more I desire Him! Love begats, or gives birth to, Love.† Itís truly amazing how opposite God and satan are with this beautiful nature of gentleness. Sometimes we get lost in the supernatural workings because satan does perform miracles. But you know, itís not by the supernatural that we will know who are His, Itís by the Fruit of the Holy Spirit KJV Luke 6:44† 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.† (Whole Chapter: In context: ) which are, NIV 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Whole Chapter: In context: ).
Satan can imitate the gifts of the Spirit, but not the fruits. And he is by no means gentle or lowly in nature as Christ who washed our feet and spilled His blood on our behalf. The fruits of satan and those of Christ are absolutely 180 degrees opposite of each other. Just the way God brings us to Himself should win our hearts and then when we look at how satan does it with getting loud and in our face should repulse us. Christ our Lord offers us Beauty of Heart and wealth of character while satan says beauty is of our flesh and wealth of our bank accounts. Christ says die to ourselves today so that we may live with Him forever and satan says live for yourselves today and who cares if you die tomorrow.
About the only thing satan has going for him is that the spiritual realm is hidden from our eye sight. And so, when we donít acquire sight from listening to the Word of God, weíre left blinded to the spiritual world by what we can see, touch, taste, feel, or hear. And yet the Heavenly Gentleman is always there Loving us and being patient with us and ever hoping that we will hear His Love calling out to us.† We all are very fortunate that although God is All Powerful, All Knowing, All Holy, All Wise, that He is of such a Gentle and Loving Heart. If our hearts could just grasp how much He cares for us than when we look upon our children faces and see their smiles we will begin to see the face of God smile back.
When we look outside and see the snow falling from heaven or hear all creation awaken in the Spring, or smell all the wonderful smells of life in the Summer we begin to see, hear, smell, feel, and taste the Love of God to us. We donít take time out though to listen and think about Him or His Beauties that He has surrounded our lives with. When we donít take time out to give thanks, we take for granted each and every blessing that flows from His Heart to ours. What a shame! Thereís a lot of beauty in a relationship where each partner gives all of themselves for the other. That kind of marriage is one of fire and ecstasy.
If weíve lived in this life for any length of time weíre probably aware of a marriage (maybe even our own) where one partner has given all of themselves for their spouse and their spouse never reciprocated that love. So it is with our relationship with Christ, we must not allow that walk to grow cold. The more we give of ourselves to Him, the more joy and ecstasy will flow from that relationship. The God who has made Heaven and earth and all thatís within them and given His Own Son to die a terrible painful death for us on the cross, stands with His Heart full wanting to spend time with us to develop a wonderful, loving relationship with each one of us. He has made the first move and continues to move towards us each day. The least we can do is respond to such a Loving and Gentle Heavenly Father by growing in Love with His Precious Son Ė our Savior Jesus Christ!
James 3:17† 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.† May our Lord ever engraft into our Hearts the beauty of His Loving and Gentle nature that our lives may glorify the One from whom all life is and to whom all life will return!
Note: all scripture is either from the KJV (King James Version) or NIV (New International Version) if not annotated within the text.
