Main thought:          To pen my thoughts concerning the Shroud of Turin

My Feelings on the Shroud of Turin

I happened to be going through College getting an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science at the time (about 1982 to 1984) that a team of scientists were doing major testing on the Shroud of Turin. I also performed a speech for my speech class concerning the facts that the entire team along with all of their modern technical equipment could NOT prove that the image on the cloth was fabricated or false.

There will always be those who with all of the evidence never be persuaded that this cloth was the burial cloth of the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. And then again, there will also be those who will NEVER need ANY physical evidence of such since their confirmation that it is so is not dependent upon ANY physical evidence that it is, but it’s based upon ‘a small still voice’ within their hearts telling them so. But, Praise our Lord & King, He not only loves those with faith, He also cares about the doubting Thomas’s that need more proof than their hearts can give them. I sincerely believe that God has provided this cloth for those of us who tend to need more ‘physical proof’ rather than faith to believe. But, I also believe that while you may have all of the evidence in the world, there will ALWAYS be those who could care less and even our Lord mentions them as seen here with the story of a rich man and a poor man that had died with the rich one being in torment asking the Lord to send back the poor man to earth to warn his brothers; Luk 16:27  Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: Luk 16:28  For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Luk 16:29  Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. Luk 16:30  And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. Luk 16:31  And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

For those who need little if any physical proof, when it is obtained, their joy is magnified for they had already believed ‘prior to and in spite of’ the evidence being obtained. Hence our Lord’s response to Thomas as seen here; Joh 20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. For it’s people who first see with their hearts that tend to have the deeper more fertile soil that our Lord mentions in His Word as noted here; Mar 4:8  And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Seeing with the heart first prior to the eyes is still done today with many people now growing in love and marrying with never even seeing each other in person until the day of their union due to the WWW providing a means by which people can grow to know each other by what is being communicated. In the same way, God communicates His Love to every man, woman, boy and girl on this planet by His Word and His creation that testifies of Him. Those with eyes to see and ears to hear are taking the time to look and listen, those without them could care less.

One thing is for sure, each one breathing the breath of life will be responsible for their own choice. Most prior to death, and some afterwards (those that didn’t have the means to believe while alive due to their mental faculties – i.e. mentally disabled or too young to understand) For love isn’t love without a choice and so God has created each one of us with a will to choose. He’s done it with the angels (hence the fallen ones verses the faithful ones) and with us (mankind).

The soul of man is eternal due to being breathed from God Himself Who is eternal. Hence, the reason each one living will spend somewhere for ALL eternity, Heaven or hell. And, hence the reason God was sooo willing to give His Only Begotten Son Jesus to die such a horrific, terrible death for each one of us. He is infinitely Loving but because He’s also infinitely Holy, He had to have a means by which to save us once we (through our Dad & Mom, Adam & Eve) had chosen to go our own way rather than His way (trust and obedience).  That Way and ONLY Way is through Trust in and ONLY in His Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth Who was born of the virgin Mary, lived as a man, died as a man (although without sin), and rose from the dead as the God/man 3 days later. He was always the perfect God/man since He was birthed from God the Father Himself, but the final proof of it was provided upon His conquering of death itself! To add ANYTHING to what God says is required is to dilute what He says, to take away is to do just that, Jesus and Jesus Alone is the means via which every human being will exist in Heaven, God’s Paradise for all eternity.

God has already provided TONS of evidence in His Word and throughout creation that testifies of Him loud and clear for those willing to listen, but for those who need help, He has also left evidences such as the Shroud of Turin for those willing to look and listen.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving each and every one breathing Your breath of life and thank You for providing the evidences of Your Word, Your Creation, and the burial cloth of Your Son to help each and every one of us the opportunity to make the decision to place our hope and trust in Your Son, our King Jesus! For, it’s in His Everlasting, Glorious Name we pray, Amen.
