Main thought: to examine the joys of being a shining Light for Christ

Being a Shining Light for Christ!

Greatness, I donít know about you, but thereís something in me that aspires at being the best at everything I do. Sometimes, I look at my life, which is just normal without a name of renown, and I wonder, ďLord, is this all that there is?Ē It seems that as I draw near to Him, the fire and passion to be with Him are overwhelming. My heart desires to be and do so much to glorify Him and yet as I look at my life, I still need to rise and go to work each day, pay the bills, tend to those things in this life that need tending. And then, it seems that as I bend my ear to hear His voice, He seems to say, ďson, be faithful in the small things and do not be weary in well doing for in due time, you will reap a wonderful harvest.Ē Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Whole Chapter: Galatians 6 In context: Galatians 6:8-10) Sometimes, I feel like an ox that is made to remain at armís length while my heart once to race on ahead in service, and yet He once again speaks, Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Whole Chapter: Romans 12 In context: Romans 12:11-13). It seems that the only problem with spending time with the one you love, is that you want to spend more and more time. Oh how I desire to be with the One who is my life, my hope, and my righteousness. Oh how my heart desires to fly on ahead, and yet my feet are still held to this earth.

So, this thought has to do with being faithful and strengthening those that need strengthening.

The spirit of the world says that to be a shining light we need to look a certain way, have certain athletic or artistic abilities, have an education, be gifted with some special talent. And yet, Godís ways are not ours! Iím so very grateful for the Love of Godís heart, which is not based on our looks, abilities, knowledge, or possessions! And, while I may feel a need to do or be something special, He says ďyou ARE something special and I love you just the way you are!Ē 1 Corinthians 1:28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things -- and the things that are not -- to nullify the things that are, (Whole Chapter: 1 Corinthians 1 In context: 1 Corinthians 1:27-29)

I have always been one of extreme intensity. Along with this extreme intensity of spirit, Iím also a big person who has been gifted with much physical strength. I have broken records in sports while in high school, have only been beaten by one other person while a teenager in arm wrestling, and even while in prayer, love praying and singing with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength. And yet, when it comes to being great for Christ, He says donít despise the small things! Pray for those who despitefully use you, give a glass of cold water in My Name, give to those who are in greater need than you, and, donít despise the small things! With that, please listen to Godís heart in what service is to Him; 1 Peter 4:10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (Whole Chapter: 1 Peter 4 In context: 1 Peter 4:9-11) Service to Him is in the trenches of service to others; 1 John 4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. (Whole Chapter: 1 John 4 In context: 1 John 4:19-21) God Bless every life who has heard His heart and has entered themselves into service to others out of Godís prompting in their lives! Some of these will suffer much in this world of clay that is here and gone but God says ďRevelation 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. (Whole Chapter: Revelation 2 In context: Revelation 2:9-11)Ē How can we grow to being a pillar for Christ? By first learning how to be a pebble for Him; Revelation 14:12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus. (Whole Chapter: Revelation 14 In context: Revelation 14:11-13) God considers faithful endurance to Christ and His Word to be greatness. Faithful endurance to Him will not come from our own determination, it will develop within our lives as we look upon Him who emptied Himself for us; Hebrews 12:3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Whole Chapter: Hebrews 12 In context: Hebrews 12:2-4)

The world says, ďDo you need strength, beauty, and knowledge? Than strengthen yourself, make yourself beautiful, and educate yourself.Ē But God says, look upon my Son and listen to His words. Itís only when we do that we can be Godís shining lights within this lost and dying world; 1 Thessalonians 3:13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. (Whole Chapter: 1 Thessalonians 3 In context: 1 Thessalonians 3:12-14) While the world tells us to protect ourselves, God says, I will protect you; 2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. (Whole Chapter: 2 Thessalonians 3 In context: 2 Thessalonians 3:2-4)

As we learn to focus our hearts and our thoughts on the One who is Life, we will develop strength, Hebrews 12:12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. (Whole Chapter: Hebrews 12 In context: Hebrews 12:11-13) , so that we can then strengthen those around us; Acts 14:21-23 21They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said. 23Paul and Barnabas appointed elders[1] for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.

Nothing of value is meant for us and us alone. Anything that has worth and is given away increases in worth in the life to come. Mark 10: 29-31 29"I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields--and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

Christ is the Light of the world; John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (Whole Chapter: John 8 In context: John 8:11-13) . So, in order for us to be a light for Christ, He needs to be the One who is our passion and our focus. Not our works for Him or our Knowledge of Him but Him alone. Those who focus on the things of Christ and not Christ will never know the joy of knowing Him.

May every heart that hungers for Life, Joy, Peace and Righteousness find their fill at the feet of Christ Who alone is our Hope, Joy, and Reward. Being a light for Christ is the greatest thing one can be. And, when all is said and done and we breathe our final breath within this world of clay we may hear our savior say; Revelation 2:3 (NIV) 3You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. AND,Luke 19:17 " 'Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. 'Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.' (Whole Chapter: Luke 19 In context: Luke 19:16-18)

Heavenly Father, forgive us when our hearts focus on doing grand and great things rather than being faithful with where youíve placed us. May You be the desire of our hearts even in the small things. In Jesus Glorious, Wonderful Name, Amen.
